Dark And Fun Is The Theme This October
Now that October is here, we can officially say that fall has arrived. Although some of us are still mourning the end of beach days and sundresses, we can’t deny that autumn certainly has many redeeming qualities. Oversized sweaters, soft leggings and, in my case, warm leather jackets help make the transition into shorter days and cooler temperatures a bit easier to bear. And, of course, those cooler temps and the lower humidity mean it’s easier for those of us who enjoy makeup to actually wear it – and for us curly haired people to wear a hairstyle other than “electrocuted lion.”
While certain things may always stay in style, some beauty trends tend to change along with the colors of the leaves. No matter what hair style or nail color you choose, comfort and confidence will always be the most important attributes you could have, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t indulge in the latest trends and try new things! Who knows, maybe you’ll find a new look that you’ll carry with you for seasons to come.
With that said, grab your pumpkin spice lattes and let’s take a look at what fall 2018 has in store for us.
If you feel like dying your hair this fall, which I do whenever I first spot decorative gourds, there are a number of colors and styles that are making the rounds this October. As with every fall season, we see darker hues compared to their summer counterparts, but darker certainly doesn’t mean boring. While there have been a few celebrities spotted with jet black hair just in time for Halloween, the more popular option is to opt for multidimensional color in cooler, but darker, tones that is less high maintenance than all black or platinum blonde. Darker roots and lighter ends are as popular as ever, as they help you grow out your light summer hair without a stark contrast to your natural color coming in. By darkening the roots and blending them in with the length, the result is highlighted hair that looks natural and doesn’t require too much upkeep.
As far as the actual colors go, we’re seeing a lot of dusty and strawberry blondes, rich browns and warm coppers this season. One style that is mostly geared towards brunettes but can work for any shade is called “cold brew hair”, and it’s kind of exactly what it sounds like. Hair color that mimics cold brew coffee with a touch of cream swirled in – also easy enough to maintain and can work with really any hair color and skin tone. Plus, it will remind you of coffee, and you can’t go wrong there.
Speaking of not going wrong, anyone who has ever gotten a manicure or pedicure can tell you that the most anxiety-inducing part of the process is staring at the massive wall of polishes, not knowing which one to choose. Although a manicure is less permanent than a dye job, you still want to make sure you pick a color that suits you and makes you happy to look at your fingers, especially in fall when there are Starbucks cups to be held and Instagrammed.
While we may be leaving our hot pinks and bright oranges back in summer, this season does see a collection of shades that will mesh well with freshly picked apples. Bright reds and coppers are popular, possibly for their obvious associations with fall and its color scheme. As well, we can see a lot of burgundies, red wines and mauves popping up on fingers and toes, along with brighter blues and purples for anyone who’s feeling bold. If you’re not into the idea of vibrancy, don’t worry. Blacks, whites, greys and light pinks are trending this season, too, for those who prefer a more muted look. Don’t forget, moisturized hands and feet are necessary for a good mani and pedi, so be sure to start stocking up on your favorite lotions and balms in order to keep those cuticles healthy.
Drew’s Honeybees will be releasing new skin balms in the upcoming weeks, and as always the products are 100% organic with 20% of all proceeds going towards research of honey bee sustainability. Be sure to sign up for our emails so you can be the first to know about new product arrivals.
